**Unique Senior Leadership Opportunity**

Leading a talented team of over 250 and partnering closely with adjacent functions and our State-based businesses, this role owns our value strategy and is instrumental in driving strategic growth and operational execution across the country in our Supermarkets and Wholesale businesses.

The role encompasses accountabilities for all aspects of the product lifecycle and by building and developing successful partnerships with our suppliers, is responsible for delivery of sustainable, profitable growth for the Independent Network plus merchandise income for Metcash.

**What you’ll do**
- Drive both short and long-term growth strategies and identify opportunities within the business to enhance sales and profit, with full P&L responsibility
- Work collaboratively with our network of retailers and suppliers to design and drive both strategic and operational initiatives that will benefit the wholesale and retail network
- Drive supplier and retailer engagement with mutually beneficial strategies and objectives
- Create differentiation and speed to market for customers
- Lead and develop the National Merchandise team, including the Category Management team, Private Label team and Merchandise Operations functions
- Act as a member of the Food Senior Leadership Team, inspiring the team towards a future vision and direction, and being an advocate for strategic and sustainable growth
- Driving a team culture of critical thinking and coaching which promotes direction, capability and energy
- Lead system and process transformation programs within Merchandise team to drive operational efficiency

**What you’ll bring**
- Exemplary merchandise skills including trading, category management and vendor partnerships
- Track record of transforming a business/function through strategic growth
- Success in managing major change/transformation and working collaboratively with a range of critical stakeholders
- Understanding of and ability to work with and influence a complex independent retail network
- Deep understanding of supplier capabilities and cost of goods
- Ability to build meaningful and collaborative relationships both internally and externally
- Previous success in attracting talent, developing and sustaining a high performance culture and constructive leadership within a large team
- Strong skills in establishing and developing supplier relationships based on trust and identifying mutually beneficial outcomes
- Experience within retail / FMCG industry
