**Who we are**
The Plant Export Operations Branch (PEOB) facilitates trade and market access through the development of technical operational phytosanitary export inspection and certification policies. The branch does this by developing and implementing policies and guidance materials that ensure Australian horticulture, grain and other plant-based exports meet Australia's export legislation, international obligations and importing country conditions. The branch has a key role in advancing Australia's market access priorities by actively engaging in overseas market access negotiations. The branch works with all participants in the export pathway to continuously improve the export framework and ensure expert advice and support is available to the horticulture and grain export industries. In addition, the branch administers the development and training of authorised officers to conduct inspections.

Assessment Services Exports manages the assessment and issuance of export permits and associated certification under the
- Export Control Act 2020_ for a range of food and plant related commodities. Assessment Services Exports staff are office based and have daily interactions with external clients such as brokers, agents or exporters either in person, by telephone and/or online. Assessment Services Exports staff utilise a number of departmental systems and databases in order to carry out their duties.

**The Jobs**
The role of the Team Leader is to be an active and accountable member of the Assessment Services Exports leadership team. The duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

- leading, managing and supervising the performance of an operational assessments team (including performance management) to achieve individual and team targets and goals
- coaching and guiding the team in the technical aspects of assessments
- making decisions about complex operational and technical issues in line with relevant legislation and referring issues to managers and/or policy areas where required
- providing timely and accurate advice on complex export matters to employees, stakeholders/clients and/or managers
- communicating, liaising, negotiating with and responding to internal and external clients, including government agencies and industry parties
- undertaking general administrative functions associated with the management of staffing and other resources, including assisting with the preparation and management of budgets, staffing and resource management.

**Please note** that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill several ongoing vacancies and that the roles may be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- A strong understanding and knowledge of the Australian agricultural export supply chain including relevant legislation, regulation and systems.
- Experience in managing the performance of operational staff.
- Experience in a client service role.

The successful applicant must note that the position may require them to participate in an on-call roster (for which an appropriate restriction allowance will be paid) and be available to perform duty outside standard hours.
