Western Private Hospital (WPH), is a boutique private hospital servicing the West of Melbourne with the provision of acute services, which has 68 inpatient beds. WPH’s facilities include four Operating Theatres, CSSD, Day Stay Unit, Day Oncology Unit, Eleanor Overnight Ward for CCU, HDU & Surgical patients, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, Specialist Consulting Suites, Nuclear Medicine Department and supported by pathology, pharmacy, radiology and radiation therapy services.
About the Role
We’re looking for a payroll enthusiast to join the team at WPH, working on-site in Footscray, on a permanent part-time basis of 3-4 days per week as we embark on the next phase of our payroll/time & attendance system implementation.
Working alongside the Senior Payroll Officer, this role requires an experienced payroll professional who will be responsible for providing accurate, timely and efficient payroll services at WPH in accordance with relevant Awards, Agreements and legislative requirements, as well as be expected to support the payroll function when the Senior Payroll Officer is on leave.
The key responsibilities and duties for the role include (but not limited to):
End-to-end processing of fortnightly pay run for approx. 250 employees accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner in accordance with instructions, agreed expectations and best practice
Performing full function payroll tasks including onboarding, new starter processing, auditing, reconciliations, terminations, superannuation and ATO reporting
Processing payroll exceptions via iChris, checking of timesheet data within Optima including the running of reports, as well as the reconciliation/verifying of payroll results and data to ensure the integrity of the data in both systems
Responsibility for the systems administration of our employee and manager self-service system in Optima
Maintaining and updating employee records and payroll information
Calculation and preparation of manual payments, including termination, pay adjustments and redundancy pays
Liaising with staff and management to resolve payroll and time & attendance queries to ensure the accurate payments of salary and wages to all staff
About You
You are a passionate and talented individual with high level technical payroll and award interpretation expertise and an eye for detail, coupled with excellent customer service skills. You will thrive in a busy environment and will enjoy the challenge of working in an autonomous role, proactively and as part of a supportive team across Payroll, HR and Finance.
You will have exceptional people skills and will work to quickly build positive relationships with staff and managers across WPH. In short, we are looking for that unique someone who loves data and transactional nature of work but is still very much a people person who thrives on solving problems, collaborating on solutions and empowering others to achieve the end result.
Selection Criteria
Several years’ experience in a standalone payroll role with full function knowledge and/or substantial end-to-end payroll experience in a medium-large and complex organisation - healthcare sector experience is essential
Experience with complex payroll software - use of iChris / Chris21 is highly regarded
Experience using workforce management (eRostering, time & attendance) systems - Optima is highly regarded
Working knowledge of Australian employment and payroll legislation
Excellent time management and organisational skills and be comfortable with the strict deadlines associated with a fortnightly payroll
Be highly skilled in using Microsoft Office, in particular Excel
Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills
Exceptional attention to detail and data inputting with high levels of accuracy
Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills
Confidentiality, sensitivity, and integrity across all aspects of the role
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and comfortable working in a changing and fast paced working environment
Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative & flexibility, as well as cooperatively as part of a team and manage own workload
