**What you will doAs our Principal Policy Officer, you will**: - Lead and manage the effective delivery of policy and technical services to the department's reef program, ensuring the objectives and related activities of the unit occur to the highest standards. Provide effective leadership, direction and motivation that supports a skilled workforce that is client focussed, engaged and informed about the business and ready to meet the challenges of changing business and customer needs. Prepare and provide comprehensive, high quality and timely strategic advice to the Director-General, the Office of the Minister and senior departmental staff on natural resource management and sustainable agricultural development in the Great Barrier Reef Catchments including issues, opportunities, risk mitigation strategies, contentious matters and successes as required. Actively contribute to and/or ensure, as applicable, the development of operational plans, reporting and monitoring of financial and human resource objectives and actively contribute to reef and natural resource programs' strategic planning processes. Work across the department to build a collaborative community of practice in support of departmental strategic and operational imperatives. Initiate, lead, influence and maintain high functioning key stakeholder relationships that successfully manages positive expectations, progresses business opportunities and creates efficiencies by representing the department on complex agricultural, natural resource and reef program issues. Manage highly complex and sensitive matters that impact on agriculture and the environment and escalate as required. Foster a culture that values ongoing excellence in performance, customer service, continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of high-quality services. Undertake duties as a manager in accordance with s26 (2) & (3) of the Public Service Act having regular management and performance conversations with employees under your supervision and by implementing departmental performance and development strategies to assist in maintaining high performing and committed employees.What you will bringEssential requirements
- Experience in successfully leading and supporting teams and program management to achieve organisational goals and objectives. High level analytic, conceptual and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively provide authoritative advice to senior and executive management using advanced effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively engage, negotiate and influence to achieve organisational goals.You may also have
- Qualifications in areas such as (but not limited to) agriculture, sustainability and/or behavioural insights from a recognised tertiary institution would be highly desirable.
