Due to recent machinery of government changes, this position will support the newly formed Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (DCSODSFB). This position will be advertised under the former DESBT while establishment changes are finalised*

About the role
**As the Business Support Officer, you will**:

- Provide professional, people-focused administrative services to clients in relation to:

- Providing informal small business dispute resolution
- Administering mediation services to resolve small business disputes
- Providing information to small business
- Delivering outreach services (over the phone) to help small business navigate challenges
- Use written and oral communication skills to effectively assist clients with telephone enquiries and online requests for service; manage client expectations; and create meaningful and accurate records.
- Provide effective, timely and proactive administrative support to the Office of the Queensland Small Business Commissioner to ensure efficient day to day operations in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures (e.g. issuing statutory notices, paying invoices, ordering stationery, travel bookings, general administration etc.).
- Undertake other administrative activities and projects as directed.

What we are looking for
**The position requires an applicant who can**:

- Understand the work environment (especially dispute resolution and other support services in small business lease and retail lease disputes).
- Communicate clearly and concisely (predominantly over the phone and in writing).
- Take personal responsibility for accurate completion of administrative work (including keeping accurate and comprehensive records).
- Actively work to understand clients and engage them in a friendly and respectful manner.
- Show a willingness to try new ways of working and generate ideas and suggestions for improvement.

**It would be highly desirable for the applicant to have**:

- Previous experience as a call centre operator or administrative support officer or similar, relevant role.
- Previous experience assisting small businesses in a commercial leasing context.
