**Employment Opportunity**
The Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner is seeking a media and communications officer to join his office in Melbourne.

This is an opportunity to join a small team supporting the Anti-Slavery Commissioner in his role combatting modern slavery in Australia and globally.

A function of the Commissioner's role is conducting education and community awareness initiatives relating to modern slavery, disseminating information relating to modern slavery and promoting compliance with the _Modern Slavery Act 2018_.

The person employed would work closely with the Commissioner and his staff on a range of media and communications related duties, including:

- editing publications and reports
- managing the Commissioner's social media accounts and website
- drafting media releases
- liaising with media outlets
- providing communications advice and guidance.

As this is a new position in the recently established office of the Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner the person filling this position would have an opportunity to develop the role over time in response to the needs of the Commissioner and the office.

- the ability to work effectively in high pressure environments with tight timeframes and work flexibly across a small team
- the ability to work independently and think creatively
- the ability to liaise widely and develop productive working relationships with stakeholders
- excellent judgment, common sense and discretion.

The position will be based in the Melbourne CBD, with some capacity to work from home.
The position could be offered as a part-time position (3-4 days a week) if required.
Current APS employees are encouraged to apply, with the potential to s26 transfer into the role.
