Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, General Counsel - Melbourne - Ongoing/non-ongoing, full-time/part-time, $245,944 to $283,786 total remuneration We are seeking an experienced and successful leadership professional with strong legal, governance and compliance skills for the role of Assistant Commissioner General Counsel at the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). The Assistant Commissioner General Counsel is a Senior Executive Services Band 1 position that reports directly to the ACNC Commissioner and forms part of the ACNC Executive team. As **Assistant Commissioner General Counsel**, you'll demonstrate an extensive understanding of the legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks and ensure that the law is properly interpreted and applied. You’ll have a strong understanding of the entities the ACNC regulates and the broader environment in which they operate. You’ll be accountable to research and analyse complex internal and external environments to determine how issues may impact the organisation and provide a high level of advice to the ACNC Commissioner as well as a range of stakeholders. You will provide quality advice that supports strategic decision making, and you will be required to make legal decisions about charity registration and manage legal risks. You'll provide guidance to charities and the public to enhance transparency and good governance in the sector. You will represent the ACNC in public forums and legal proceedings. You'll be a key liaison point with the charity and not-for-profit sector, their legal and professional advisers, sector intermediaries and peak bodies. You will be responsible for leading: > the regulation of charities on the Charity Register, ensuring accuracy of information and identifying gaps to improve our services to charities, their advisers and the public > registration of charities, ensuring a positive customer experience and assessing applicants against the required criteria > the compliance function, including using analytics and intelligence to identify risks that pose a threat to trust and confidence in the charity sector > legal and policy support across the ACNC including freedom of information and privacy matters, litigation involving the ACNC, ensuring the ACNC’s compliance with legal obligations and policy work on matters relating to the ACNC and sector.
