**The Role**
The VET Outcomes and System Performance Section is responsible for research and analysis on the performance of, and student outcomes arising from, Australia’s vocational training sector. The team is looking to fill an EL1 role due to growing program of work.
Responsibilities of the **EL1 Officer** may include:

- Leading a team of researchers and data analysts to analyse large and complex administrative data sets, including developing robust methodologies, and ensuring consistent and accurate documentation.
- Contributing to the strategic direction of the team’s research and analysis program and conducting independent research and analysis on the VET system’s performance, including student outcomes and training activity.
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to workshop and disseminate research methodologies and key findings.
- Leading the team to produce research papers, reports, and presentations summarising key findings and results from analysis and ensuring quality assurance processes for analysis and reporting.

**Skills and Capabilities**
We are seeking an individual with the following skills and capabilities:

- High level data analysis skills, including advanced proficiency with R (or similar) and SQL and experience in working with large administrative data sets (e.g., PLIDA).
- Ability to lead a geographically dispersed team of researchers and analysts to develop research plans and methodology, through to the dissemination and presentation of research findings.
- Excellent written and visual communication skills, with the ability to disseminate methodology and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Knowledge of the Australian tertiary education system and related government policy, including experience in working with relevant data sources.

Below experience is highly regarded but not essential:

- Experience in working on Databricks or similar cloud computing infrastructure.
- Experience in research and analysis of VET or related fields (such as higher education).

**The Opportunity**
This position is available to Ongoing Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and/or APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of **12** months.
