The Data Operations and Products function is located within the Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) at Comcare. The function provides specialist analytics capability to the organisation as well as acting as a data 'front door' for requests raised by stakeholders across Comcare.

Our work supports evidence-based decision making and provides insight into emerging risks and trends to support Comcare's purpose of promoting and enabling safe and healthy work.

Overview of the Role

As a Data Scientist, you will contribute to Comcare's priorities and inform evidence-based decision-making. You will develop and implement techniques or analytic applications to transform raw data into meaningful information for business areas using data-oriented programming languages and visualisation software.

The Data Scientist will also support and maintain existing analytic products, deliver one-off insights, and conduct exploratory/investigatory analysis. As a specialist resource, they will also assist in identifying synergies and risks and opportunities for the deployment of analytic applications across Comcare.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Mandatory:
    • Recognised tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. data science, statistics or actuarial) from an Australian tertiary institution or a comparable overseas institution or demonstrated equivalent experience.
    • Experience and knowledge in using R and/or Python for developing data science solutions.
    • Experience in using SQL to extract, transform and analyse data from databases.
  • Experience using Databricks for undertaking exploratory analysis and machine learning model development.
Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment
  • Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
  • Employee Health Declaration.
  • Six months probationary period for new engagements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
