The Legal Services Commission (Legal Services) is an independent statutory authority providing free legal assistance to all South Australians. As the largest legal assistance service in SA, Legal Services offers a range of services, from legal information and advice to legal representation in the areas of family law, criminal law, and civil law. With a focus on client service and an unwavering commitment to the community, Legal Services is now seeking a dynamic and experienced criminal lawyer to lead its Criminal Law Practice Division.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this role is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Criminal Law Practice Division and its exceptional legal team. The Criminal Law Practice Division provides high quality legal advice and representation to some of the most vulnerable members of our community and plays a critical role in securing a fair and effective criminal justice system in South Australia. As a member of the Legal Services’ Senior Management Team, this role will contribute to Legal Services’ continuous improvement, including by developing and implementing systems and processes for best practice for criminal defence legal assistance and will support and promote staff engagement and development consistent with Legal Services’ strategic goals of being a model legal aid service and employer of choice. This role will promote collaboration with Team Leaders, Managing Counsel, and staff across Legal Services to ensure the delivery of consistent, high quality and efficient criminal law advice and legal representation while partnering effectively with external stakeholders to improve outcomes for clients and the community. The Manager will be expected to undertake the most complex and high-profile criminal law solicitor files as appropriate and consistent with their leadership responsibilities.
