The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support all cohorts in case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

Homelessness Melbourne Metro is committed to providing person centred care, trauma informed practice and a strengths-based approach to improve the health, wellbeing and housing outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.
The Homelessness Melbourne Metro region is a large Homelessness provider in the inner city of Melbourne and provides a comprehensive range of residential & community services across seven sites in St Kilda, Footscray, North Melbourne, West Melbourne, Kensington and Fitzroy.
Community programs include the Crisis Contact Centre, Community Outreach Services for single adults, support for older people in public housing, rough sleeper & street sleeping initiatives, community participation and AOD support.
Residential services operate from Foley House in Footscray, the Open Door in North Melbourne and Flagstaff in West Melbourne.
Homelessness Melbourne Metro is supported by co-located services including the TSA Chaplaincy program, Bolton Clarke primary health service and NDIS support coordination.

The position
We are committed to working with the most disadvantaged, marginalised and complex members of our community to support them in recovering from their experience of trauma and homelessness.
The Peer Support Worker role is informed by the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) practise model, which recognises the connection between worker and consumer as critical in achieving housing and wellbeing goals.
You will have
- Lived experience of resettling in a home after experiencing homelessness. They will draw on that experience to support consumers to resettle and stabilise after their period of homelessness
- Specialty knowledge in providing a lived-experience perspective to the Case Management and Leadership Teams at The Salvation Army

About you
- A lived experience of resettling in a home after experiencing homelessness
- Proof of Formalised Peer Support Training
- A strong commitment to social justice, human rights and consumer centred practice
- Ability to facilitate active participation by consumers in all aspects of recovery and service delivery
- Well-developed interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team as well as independently
- A current VIC Drivers Licence
- Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
- Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
