The Medical Imaging Assistant works under the direction of the Radiographer/Sonographer to optimise the efficiency of the Radiology Department, and is responsible for carrying out work of a general nature, assisting the radiographer/sonographers during the imaging and associated processes. The assistant cares for patients and prepares them for imaging procedures, ensuring the patients are comfortable and at ease during their imaging process. The assistant is required to communicate with other members of the health care team to ensure that patient care and workflow is coordinated and as efficient as possible. In addition to working with patients and assisting with the operational aspects of workflow, the imaging assistant is also required to perform administrative and workflow support tasks. These tasks include but are not limited to data entry, maintaining, updating and registering client and examination details, copying, faxing, filing, managing patient image files and patient appointment information. Experienced Assistants would also be able to identify client circumstances that would need additional input from the radiographer/sonographer.

**Key Responsibilities**
- The Medical Imaging Assistant requires high levels of Computer Literacy, some knowledge of medical terminology, good attention to detail and customer and empathy service skills in order to:

- Care for consumers by maintaining a high standard of patient care, safety and confidentiality
- Observe patients and liaise with other Ward Clerks, Assistants and Health Professionals
- Assist Radiographers/Sonographers with diagnostic imaging procedures
- Manage equipment and prepare patients for imaging procedures ensuring workflow is coordinated effectively and efficiently.
- Record and complete correct documentation for patients and procedures, which will include computer orientated work
- Ensure change rooms, examination rooms and support areas are clean and tidy
- Reprocesses reusable medical devices and equipment
- Maintain effective infection control practices
- Undertake any additional tasks as requested that reasonably fall within the scope of the position and classification.
