**The Opportunity**

The Victoria New South Wales Interconnector West (VNI West) will interconnect Victoria to NSW, a major transmission infrastructure project proposed to secure the electricity supply and boost sharing between the two states. The new 500kV interconnector (and possible non-network options) will improve supply reliability as ageing coal-fired generation is retired and increase customer access to cheaper, cleaner electricity from renewable generators as energy storage becomes critical.

As Health, Safety and Security Manager you will provide specialist and technical Health, Safety and Security (HSS) advice and support across the project lifecycle and to lead HSS activities for the project. The role is required to effectively; communicate HSS strategies; link policies and procedures; report and manage HSS incidents; and influences others. A key focus on the continual improvement of HSS performance and culture in the workplace is necessary.

This role aims to provide effective support to the project team for a number of Transgrid Major Project workstreams. This includes specialist safety advice and general security support both on-site and off-site. As this is senior management role, it is expected that the incumbent will perform both strategic and on site management activities.

This position is embedded within the VNI-W project team and reports to the Delivery Manager. The position will draw on technical support from the wider Transgrid HSS team in ensuring VNI-W HSS standards and practices meet Transgrid’s standard requirements whilst ensuring the specific requirements of the project are in all cases fulfilled.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Develop and define, in alignment with existing systems the health, safety and security strategy, planning and operations for the project.
- Lead the project team and contractors with enabling safety initiatives to set the project up for success.
- Proactively manage risk in alignment with Transgrid’s HSE and Risk Management strategies and systems.
- Ensure inspections are conducted in accordance with the HSS strategy
- Provide advice on physical security matters including surveillance and emergency response. You will need a strong commitment to security best practice and knowledge of all hazards and threats to safety.
- Influence managers and team members to actively demonstrate effective HSS strategies
- Establish and implement a fit for purpose assurance program for project activities for HSS compliance.
- Manage and deliver investigation of incidents, injuries or breaches of HSS procedures.
- Manage, deliver and establish effective contractor engagement and alignment for any outsourced activities including construction.
- Manage the coordination and alignment of HSS activities being delivered by Transgrid project staff and external contractor resources.
- Manage incident reporting using CAMMS system.
- Manage ICAM and other investigations of incidents, injuries or breaches of health and safety procedures.
- Manage standard processes for project monthly HSS reporting using approved Transgrid corporate systems.
- Manage and establish effective contractor engagement and alignment for any outsourced activities including construction using the WSAT system as a tool to assist.
- Provide HSS advice to the project team members and contractors.
- Develop the HSS resourcing requirements for the VNI West Major Project and manage the team once established.
- Lead the implementation of HSS policies for the assigned project.
- Lead and provide specialist advice and guidance in regards to management and monitoring of contractors.
- Advise employees on relevant HSS related topics.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of changes on HSS legislative requirements and provide advice accordingly.
- Conduct and provide guidance around risk assessments as required for Transgrid staff.
- Advocate positive wellbeing ensuring project team members are aware of support programs and actively promote personal wellbeing and good mental health

**Skills & Experience**

**Academic Qualifications & Experience**
- Tertiary qualifications at Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety.
- A minimum of ten years’ experience in Health, Safety and Security Management Systems.
- Investigation Qualification (eg ICAM).

**Work Experience & Skills**
- Proven track record in achieving outstanding health and safety outcomes.
- Experience in comparable projects, ideally including $1bn+ project size, linear infrastructure and work in regional and remote areas.
- Extensive experience implementing and monitoring operational HSS initiatives and processes that manage risk. In particular felt and visible leadership and critical risk management.
