The Mechanical Fabricator is responsible for timely, efficient and high-quality work in the Engineering Fabrication Department on Creature Technology Co. projects and reports to the Head of Engineering Fabrication or their delegate.

CORE DUTIES
- Work with RHS/SHS tube, steel plate and complex machined nodes to create body part frames for large animatronic creatures that pivot on at least two axes and contain various modes of actuation
- MIG welding with some TIG welding occasionally required. Welds will be inspected by a third-party weld inspector to AWS D.1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 or Australian Standard 1554
- Make and/or use weld maps in the fabrication of frames to minimise distortion
- Take active responsibility for own Occupational Health and Safety and assist to maintain a safe and healthy workplace at CTC more broadly
- Comply with Creature Technology’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations
- Other duties as directed - there is an expectation that CTC employees in this position will be able to perform reasonable tasks beyond this role when required
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical assembly and steel fabrication
- Ability to fabricate to fine tolerances, using and/or making jigs, and perform welds that accurately reflect the weldments weld procedure
- Ability to read complex engineering drawings including a good understanding of weld symbols. Basic experience with, or aptitude for, the use of Solidworks engineering modelling software would be an advantage
- Basic knowledge of machine shop tools an advantage (i.e. lathe, milling machine, drill press). A willingness to learn these skills (if not possessed) and creature mechanical assembly is required
- A knowledge of basic rigging
- Ability to work under mínimal supervision either as an individual or part of a team
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving work demands and schedules
- Good communication skills including the ability to interpret instructions and procedures
- Strong attention to detail
