Mechanical Fitter – Hands-On Role with Design & CAD Exposure

Location: Melbourne, VIC

Job Type: Full-Time

Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter who is confident on the tools and comfortable working with CAD and design concepts. This is a hands-on role that blends practical mechanical fitting with elements of job-specific design and toolmaking.

Ideal for someone who can think creatively, work independently, and enjoys problem-solving in a fast-paced, project-based environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical fitting and assembly of custom or one-off components
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • Assisting with mechanical design using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools
  • Involvement in toolmaking, modification work, and prototyping
  • Collaborating with engineering and fabrication teams to deliver tailored solutions

What We're Looking For:

  • Trade-qualified mechanical fitter (or equivalent certification/qualification)
  • Strong, hands-on experience using workshop tools and equipment
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Background in toolmaking or mechanical design is highly regarded
  • Practical, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work without micromanagement

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Additional qualifications in engineering, design, or a related field
  • Experience working on low-volume or custom manufacturing projects
  • Exposure to both workshop and design office environments

We're primarily looking for someone with proven hands-on ability. If you have a combination of trade and tertiary education, great — but it's not a requirement. We assess applicants based on skills, experience, and attitude.
