**About the Role**:
YWCA Canberra is looking for a Youth Engagement Officer to support our Equality Project. Drawing on community development and strength-based principles, our part-time Youth Engagement Officer will assist in the development and delivery of a range of service initiatives targeted at young people across the Tuggeranong region with a focused approach to engaging young people whose identity as Gender or sexuality diverse intersects with neurodiversity.

We are looking for someone who has experience working in with Young People and proven ability to engage them in a range of activities and current and practical knowledge of issues affecting Young People.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract with view of extension, and you will ideally work 12-14 hours per week. The role will be based at our Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre.

**About You**:
To be successful in this role, you will possess:

- Demonstrated experience working with Young People and proven ability to engage them in a range of activities, particularly with one or more of the following primary target groups:

- Young people who identify as Sexuality and/or Gender Diverse
- Young people who identify as neurodiverse
- Current and practical knowledge of issues affecting Young People, and strategies to address these issues.
- Demonstrated ability in working with young people in informal situations including effective referral and advocacy.
- Ability and/or interest in facilitating young person driven STEAMM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths, Music).
- Experience and/or training in facilitating structured groups.
- Excellent Communication skills (written, oral and interpersonal) and demonstrated ability to engage with Young People from all backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and with limited supervision.
- Understanding of and ability to incorporate Social Justice, Strengths based and community development principles within service initiatives.
- Program and project development, implementation and evaluation skills are desirable.
