**The Role**
The APS 5 Governance Officer is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex governance work within the AAC to monitor, report and improve Australian Army Cadet (AAC) youth protection outcomes. This role will carry out the administration of various governance frameworks and compliance requirements within the AAC and be required to develop and maintain a detailed understanding of Legislation, Defence and AAC Policy relevant to the role.

The Governance Officer will be responsible for:

- National Youth Safety quarterly compliance reporting
- Bi-annual audit of adult volunteer staff training requirements against positions held
- Regular monitoring of adult volunteer staff compliance requirements for working with youth
- Regular review of AAC standard operating procedures
- Implementation of governance procedures within the nine regional headquarters
- Understudy the APS 6 National Administration Manager

The output from these tasks is that AAC policy settings are being adhered to and remain appropriate to Army’s Youth Development Program.

An additional function of the role will be to support the governance of AAC personnel administration as directed by the National Administration Manager.

**About our Team**
The Australian Army Cadets is an Army youth development organisation, consisting of military, APS, adult volunteers and cadet youth. The organisation has approx. 21,000 participants, including over 19,000 cadet youth and 2000 Adult volunteers across Australia enabled by Headquarters Australian Army Cadets (HQ AAC) and nine Regional Headquarters.

The core element of the AAC is our adult volunteers, who are directly responsible for the safe delivery of the Army cadet program. Personnel Branch is a team, consisting of a Lieutenant Colonel SO1 Pers/Commanding Officer; the APS 6 National Administration Manager, under which sits an APS 5 Governance Officer and an APS 4 Administration Officer; a Major SO2 Pers, under which sits a Warrant Officer Class 2/ Warrant Officer Personnel. The Branch manages personnel administration across the AAC, to ensure personnel requirements are achieved as part of the delivery of the Australian Army Cadet program.

They should be highly organised, independent and capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines to achieving a youth safe Army Cadet Program.
