Due to our recent expansion, we’re looking for an experienced Freight Import Manager to join our dynamic team and take charge of our import and transportation operations. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a key leadership role within a high-end retailer known for quality and innovation.
**Your Role**:
As our Freight Import Manager, you’ll oversee and lead a small but dedicated team of 2-3 professionals, ensuring the seamless coordination of container bookings, shipping, customs clearance, and inbound scheduling. You’ll play a pivotal role in managing relationships with key stakeholders, optimizing logistics, and driving operational excellence.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead & Manage: Oversee a small team handling container booking, customs clearance, and delivery planning.
- Shipping & Logistics Coordination: Manage wharf cartage contractors, shipping lines, and forwarders to ensure timely movement of containers from port to distribution centers.
- Stakeholder Communication: Work closely with internal teams (warehousing, dispatch, finance, and product teams) to ensure a smooth supply chain.
- Forecasting & Reporting: Produce internal reports and volume forecasts to aid in business planning.
- Contract & Rate Negotiations: Assist in annual contract negotiations with shipping lines and ensure the best pricing within required timeframes.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot logistics issues, resolve delays, and proactively manage risks.
**The successful applicant**:
- 3+ years of experience managing container imports into port
- 3+ years of team management experience
- Strong understanding of import documentation & customs clearance
- Well-connected within the sea freight market
- Excellent negotiation skills with _shipping companies & freight providers_
- Strong knowledge of customs regulations and compliance requirements
- A proactive problem-solver with outstanding communication skills
- Computer literacy and experience with logistics software
- Full working rights in Australia (Monday - Friday availability required)
