**Job Description**:
- Reporting to the Gas Manager, you will be accountable for providing effective, long term planning and technical support using your specialist knowledge of gas monitoring, modelling and management practices.
Gas Specialist role is based in our Brisbane Corporate Office within the Gas and Vent team. The team is responsible for creating and maintaining an atmosphere suitable to support delivery of business performance expectations in terms of safety, compliance, production, and costs.
**Key accountabilities for this role include**:
- Developing and maintaining pre and post gas drainage modelling for 5 year horizon with latest actuals data confirm model accuracy / update models.
- Derive pre and post gas drainage targets from business expectations specify target distributions model confidence, define constraints & opportunities.
- Confirming gas drainage (pre and post) risks are characterised and identify potential service strategies.
- Recommending pre and post gas drainage model impacts rank and select potential strategies based on impact, costs and HSE.
- Support sites with annual Operational Planning gas drainage plans using rolling 5 year strategies.
- Supporting the Mine Planning Manager and their team with annual LOMP pre and post gas drainage requirement inputs.
- Validating gas drainage threats and service strategy impacts with BSP / model select potential strategies based on impact, cost & HSE and provide necessary recommendations to sites.
- Validating recommended functional gas drainage service strategies and provide feedback to sites.
- Developing and maintaining gas risk technical assessments for rolling 5 year horizon to support the production of Gas Drainage Technical Assessments.
- Assisting sites with gas drainage related PHMP, RA and TARP development and reviews.
- Providing sites with mentoring and guidance for gas drainage, and support with HPI investigation.
- Developing and maintaining LW SGE Modelling for 5 year horizon with latest actuals data confirm model accuracy and update models.
- Proactively identify and address mining-specific challenges and opportunities that new technology could address.
- Ensuring work process improvements derived from feedback analysis are strategically aligned to business expectations, coordinated and implemented.
- Traveling to our underground (and potentially open cut) mines in Central Queensland is required for this role.
**Qualifications**:
- To be successful in this position you will have experience in the following:
- Degree qualification in a relevant technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working in a Gas and Ventilation function in the mining or oil and has industry.
- Hands-on knowledge of gas monitoring, modelling and management practices.
- Knowledge of QLD Coal Mining Health and Safety Act 1999 and Regulations 2017.
- Strong understanding of key safety risks and ways to mitigate these.
- Demonstrate high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to provide technical and operational leadership to drive change, with a strong commitment to health, safety and environment standards.
- Demonstrate how to establish and nurture relationships with stakeholders, by use of effective listening and questioning to better understand the other person or group.
- Ability to influence or negotiate with others, in order to achieve productive outcomes.
- Effectively balance positive interactions with getting the work done.
