We are seeking dedicated Local Laws Officers committed to delivering outstanding customer service and fostering a safe, welcoming environment for our businesses, residents and visitors.
As part of the Local Laws team, you will actively engage with the community in a professional and approachable manner, addressing concerns, providing guidance, and ensuring compliance with various legislation through education, enforcement, and collaboration with Victoria Police.
In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining community amenity and safety while upholding a customer-focused approach.
Representing the City of Melbourne, you will contribute to a positive and supportive environment, ensuring all interactions are handled with professionalism and courtesy.
The Local Laws Officer will detect and enforce breaches of relevant legislation relating to, local laws, smoking, littering, animal and parking offences as well as responding to customer enquiries. The main duties include engaging with members of the public, property owners, businesses and tenants to achieve positive compliance outcomes using a combination of education, enforcement and collaboration.
The position exists to provide enforcement activities that aim to improve the amenity, accessibility, safety and cleanliness to ensure a clean, accessible and safe city.

**In addition, the position will require**:
- Ability and willingness to adapt to a dynamic work environment with a flexible and positive approach to change, and personal learning and development.
- Excellent customer service skills and an ability to deal with customers at all levels in a tactful and courteous manner.
- Proven skills in written communication including the ability to prepare status reports, statistical information, and recommendations for improvements to processes, procedures and methods of work.
- Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and the ability to remain calm, objective and in control when dealing with customer issues and concerns.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure, particularly when there are competing priorities and conflicting views in order to achieve quality outcomes
- Sound computer skills including ability to use customer databases, the Microsoft Office range, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and other technologies used in compliance and enforcement activities.
- Ability to meet and maintain the physical requirements of the role (completion of a pre-employment assessment, including podiatry assessment, is mandatory).
- Ability to maintain a clear Police check and Working with Children Check to the satisfaction of the City of Melbourne (completion of a pre-employment Police Check and Working with Children Check are mandatory) and Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline such as Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) and or equivalent relevant experience. (desirable)
**The Local Laws Officer will work a 9-day fortnight rotating roster and must be able to work between the hours of 6:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Sunday.**
The Local Laws Officer also must hold a** valid Probationary or Full Australian Driver Licence.**
