The Local Laws Officer - Public Amenity Enforcement is dedicated to promoting exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming, safe environment for our residents, businesses and visitors. The Local Laws Team strive to engage with the community in a helpful and approachable manner, ensuring that everyone's concerns and questions are addressed with professionalism and courtesy.
The Local Laws Officer - Public Amenity Enforcement will detect and enforce breaches of local laws focusing on waste and recycling issues. These are inclusive of but not limited to public amenity issues, illegal dumping investigations, disposal of residential and commercial waste into public litter bins and enforcement of conditions related to the bin permitting system using the relevant legislation as well as responding to customer enquiries. The main duties include engaging with members of the public, property owners, businesses and tenants to achieve positive compliance outcomes using a combination of education, enforcement and collaboration. As a representative of the City of Melbourne, Local Laws Officers are pivotal in creating a welcoming and customer-centric culture for our residents, businesses and visitors. The role will also engage with the community in a helpful and approachable manner, ensuring that everyone's concerns and questions are addressed with professionalism and courtesy.

**What you will bring (Selection Criteria)**

- Proven skills in written communication including the ability to prepare status reports, statistical information, and recommendations for improvements to processes, procedures and methods of work
In addition, the Local Laws Officer - Public Amenity Enforcement will ideally have the following:
- Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and the ability to remain calm, objective and in control when dealing with customer issues and concerns.
- Sound computer skills including ability to use customer databases, the Microsoft Office range, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and other programs/ technologies used in compliance and enforcement activities
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline such as Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) and or equivalent relevant experience - Preferable but not mandatory
- Knowledge in relevant EPA legislation and Environmental Local Laws is desirable but not mandatory.
The Local Laws Officer - Public Amenity Enforcement will work a 9-day fortnight rotating roster, and must be able to work between the hours of 6:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Sunday. The Local Laws Officer - Public Amenity Enforcement also must hold a valid Probationary or Full Australian Driver Licence.
