**The Role**
The Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) Branch is seeking professional, motivated EL 1 Engineering Professional/Manager to support Projects and Programs to deliver cutting edge capabilities. The EL 1 Engineering Manager is responsible for the successful leadership and management of technical activities to deliver Integrated Warfare capabilities within the maritime domain. The individual will work in an integrated team of ADF, APS and contracted staff to support the achievement of project/program objectives. Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, as well as people management abilities, are key to the role. The Engineering Manager has direct responsibilities, in support to the Project/Program Director and Manager, for technical delivery of the required capability to the approved baseline scope, schedule and costs.
This Engineering Manager manages activities associated with the functional design, delivery, testing and acceptance of complex systems into service, along with integration, certification and accreditation of the systems. Experience in requirements engineering, test and evaluation, or in system design reviews are highly desirable, with familiarity with ASDEFCON documentation, the CASG Business Management System and the Defence Capability Life Cycle are desirable.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. MIWS Branch under Major Surface Combatants and Combat Systems Division is an exciting and complex environment to work in, offering a rewarding career in one of the most dynamic organisations within NSSG. We work across both Acquisition and Sustainment environments to develop and deliver products into new shipbuilding programs and to provide update/upgrade products to the existing Navy fleet, giving staff exposure to a wide variety of high profile maritime projects. The various Directorates manage products and projects across the following categories of systems; Weapons, Accelerated Strike, Phased Array Radar (PAR), Above Water Sensors (AWS), Navigation, Under Sea Warfare (USW), Communications, Electronic Warfare (EW) and Enterprise Training.
- Demonstrated engineering experience in the project acquisition process and product management within an Authorised Engineering Organisation.
- Ability to lead an engineering team in the delivery of a project/product.
- A sound understanding of major systems integration.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and sustain successful working relationships.
