**The Role**
EL 1 Inquiries Officers work as part of a team on inquiries into the deaths of Australian Defence Force (ADF) members.

The role reports to the Director of the Directorate of Select Incidents and Review (DSIR).

In this role, you will:

- Lead and oversee inquiries and investigations into deaths of all Defence members in line with the Inspector General of the Australian Defence Force Regulation 2016
- Interview deceased member’s next of kin, respondents and witnesses in a trauma informed manner
- Provide evidence-based report writing
- Manage sensitive and protected information gathered during death inquiries, investigations and other related activities
- Work collaboratively with team members, Defence staff and other agencies and authorities
- Build team capacity and set the standard for service and quality
- Understand and comply with the agency risk management framework and relevant legislation.

Note you must be prepared to travel as a part of this role.

**About our Team**
The Office supports the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force in their statutory functions of overseeing the effectiveness of the military justice system.

The office has 3 directorates that provide administrative, human resource and legal support and 4 directorates that work on the Inspector-General’s statutory functions.

**These are**:

- Inquiries and Investigations - DII
- Military Justice Performance Review - DMJPR
- Military Redress and Review - DMRR
- Select Incident Review - DSIR

DSIR is an integrated workforce comprised of both APS and ADF staff. The directorate inquiries into the deaths of ADF members and communicates the findings and recommendation to Defence.

You will demonstrate:

- Experience in complex investigative and/or administrative assessments and inquiries
- Experience in working with individuals who have experienced trauma
- The ability to work collaboratively with others and independently
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated skills in evidence based practices and sound-decision making
- A commitment to a high level of accountability, values and integrity
- Experience or a commitment to promoting and contributing towards building diverse teams
- An ability to adapt well to changing circumstances, accepting new ideas and initiatives.
