**The Role**
They will exercise sound decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the stakeholder management function and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function. They will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

An EL 1 Assistant Director may be a team coach or lead an administrative team and will be accountable for the outcomes of the teams work and the appropriate use of resources to produce and achieve outcomes. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching and feedback and reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.

An EL 1 Assistant Director will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.

**About our Team**
The Ministerial and Parliamentary Branch is made up of four teams:

- Ministerial and Executive Support partners with internal and external customers and stakeholders to deliver effective and timely Ministerial and Executive services, training and support. The team facilitates the successful workflow of ministerial products between the Department and Ministers Office’s. The Team also provides training and support to PDMS users across the Department and provides bespoke executive support to the top four executives.
- Parliamentary Business coordinates parliamentary items between the Department and Ministers’ Offices. The team engage with Parliamentary committees to coordinate the Department’s involvement in inquiries and provides oversight of related items to ensure they meet the quality and timeliness standard the Ministers, Secretary and CDF require. In addition the Parliamentary Business team, supports the Departments’ appearance at Senate Estimates by compiling briefs, managing Questions on Notice and supporting witnesses at the hearings.
- Cabinet Liaison Services (CLS) section is the central coordinating team for Defence Cabinet matters. CLS track and report on the Cabinet Forward Work Program; progress Defence Cabinet products through internal clearance processes; facilitate consultation with external agencies; coordinate the development of briefing material in support of Defence Ministers’ attendance at Cabinet and Cabinet Committee meetings; and develop and deliver training on Cabinet processes.CLS supports the decision making process of Government by directly enabling our Ministers, the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force to develop significant policy and make decisions relating to national security. Working in CLS provides you with privileged insight into decision making directly related to national security and an opportunity to work closely with Ministerial staff, Defence senior leaders and a wide range of areas across Defence to progress Cabinet submissions for decision.
- Strategic Issues Management is responsible for the provision of portfolio-support to the Ministers in the Defence portfolio, and strategic planning and reporting to support provision of advice and the preparation of high-level products across the Ministerial and Parliamentary remit. Strategic Issues Management supports the functional running of the ministerial offices in Parliament House and across Australia.
