Operational Research sits within the multi-disciplinary Intelligence Directorate supporting intelligence-driven policing through specialised operational and translatable research and analysis, servicing all areas of the Queensland Police Service (QPS). The unit provides guidance as part of an integrated intelligence environment integrating research principles to ensure operational outcomes improve community safety and reduce harm.
This position is responsible for driving specialised operational and translational evidence-based research and analysis, and providing authoritative advice for strategic and operational prevention, disruption and investigative responses to problem places and cases. The team's work is innovative, unique, timely, and relevant. This unit comprises highly qualified professionals with a focus on informing practice and service delivery to meet QPS and CIC objectives.
Operational Research functions include service-wide reviews, targeted and contextually responsive evaluations of operational initiatives, advice and requests for information, involvement in advisory groups, and operational research at state, regional and district levels across a broad range of topics.
The team builds operationally relevant professional and research partnerships both internal and external to the QPS, through a variety of activities including conference attendance, student placements and mentoring, and initiating and managing the delivery of frontline-focussed research contracts with external providers. As the Principal Research Officer, you will supervise a small team of researchers.
- Are you skilled in diverse research methodologies (quantitative and qualitative) to deliver authoritative and timely advice aimed at preventing and disrupting crime?
- Do you have the capability to monitor and assess operations and policing strategies and initiatives at state, national and international levels and advise on their applicability to the Queensland context, including their efficiency, effectiveness and relevance?
