The Family Violence Outreach Service provides support and assistance to victim survivors of family violence.

The Family Violence Outreach Service;
- provides support and assistance to victim survivors of family violence to build a life free from violence
- assists victim survivors using a strength-based, trauma informed approach to identify goals to empower them to work towards achieving positive outcomes and regain control of their lives
- provides case work in a range of different intensities, from brief crisis response to long term case management to promote the safety, wellbeing and recovery of victim survivors
- assists victim survivors in a manner that is consistent with the aims, objectives and values of The Salvation Army and the guidelines provided by Department of Health and Human Services.
- is guided by best practice frameworks of governing and peak bodies, Family Safety Victoria, Domestic Violence Victoria, Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria, Gippsland Women’s Health
- reports into the Victorian Family Violence Stream of The Salvation Army

Why this role matters

As part of the FV Outreach team the Family Violence Practitioner - Rapid Response will provide interim support to women and children experiencing family violence, referred out of the Orange Door - Inner Gippsland. The practitioner will deliver high quality, safe and effective responses to women, children and families seeking support and safety across South Gippsland and Bass Coast.

You will successfully
- Identify, assess and prioritise risk and needs of women and children through comprehensive risk management and safety planning (this position holds MARAM Tier 1 responsibilities)
- Deliver crisis responses, service planning, targeted interventions, and coordinated referrals
- Support with access to, information, advocacy, and referrals to support the victim survivor to exercise their rights, make informed decisions, navigate the service system
- Work collaboratively with Victoria Police, Child Protection and other key partners surrounding the safety, care and protection of victim survivors
- Liaise and network with relevant community groups and agencies, and facilitate linkages with services and programs, to improve the safety and wellbeing of the victim survivors
- Provide backfill response to case managed clients to support leave/absence of other team members.
- Build trust and rapport with victim survivors of family violence and their children
- Work creatively towards ensuring that the safety and support needs of all victim survivors accessing the services are the first priority
- Work in partnership with victim survivors, acknowledging and supporting their strengths, capabilities and survival strategies, to empower them to achieve their goals
- Work with a trauma informed lens.
- Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve the goals of the service.
- Engage with internal and external partners as required and support in the development and maintenance of effective working relationships

This is a maximum term part time position, 30.4 hours per week for 12 months based in Leongatha.

What we’re looking for
- Qualifications must align with the Mandatory Minimum Qualification Requirements for Specialist Family Violence Workers (Recommendation 209)
- Tertiary qualification (desirable) in social work, community services, youth work, psychology or community development or relevant experience and education in a social service environment
- Advance literacy and computer skills
- A current VIC Drivers Licence
