We are seeking an experienced and successful leadership professional with strong legal, governance and compliance skills to take on the role of Assistant Commissioner and ATO General Counsel, Office of General Counsel.

As the **Assistant Commissioner and ATO General Counsel, Office of General Counsel**, you will demonstrate an extensive understanding of the legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks and ensure that the law is properly interpreted and applied.

Reporting directly to the ATO’s Chief General Counsel & Deputy Commissioner, Integrity Assurance and Law you will provide expert, tailored and contemporary legal services to inform good decision making and effective management of general law legal risks within the ATO and achieve ATO priorities.

You will manage general law risks, provide in-house legal services including administrative law, FOI, privacy, taxpayer confidentiality, monetary claims, employment law, commercial law and corporate governance including obligations arising under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.

You will manage non-tax disputes and lead the in-house management and resolution of non-tax claims and litigation against the ATO, providing support and assistance to employees named and involved in these proceedings.

You will be responsible for the operations of the Office of General Counsel and are expected to maintain and improve the delivery of in-house legal services.
