**About the Role**
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Coordinator Media and Communications to join our dynamic and collaborative team. Reporting to the Manager Communications, Advocacy and Investment, you will lead a dedicated team responsible for shaping and executing media and communication strategies that support the Council’s goals and enhance its public profile.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact, guiding the strategic direction of our communications across a variety of platforms. Your expertise in media relations, digital communications, and stakeholder engagement will be essential in ensuring the Council’s voice is effectively communicated to our diverse community.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead a team in managing media responses, strategic campaign planning, and complex communications activities.
- Oversee Council’s digital channels and publications, including **Whitehorse News**.
- Develop strategies to engage a diverse community, utilising data-driven and community-led initiatives.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships across the organisation to deliver high-impact engagement campaigns.
- Manage and protect the Council’s brand, ensuring its reputation is upheld.
- Lead the production of corporate communications materials, ensuring the highest quality and standards are maintained.
- Support the Mayor and Councillors in media and communications activities.
- Develop and implement a strategic approach to stakeholder engagement, ensuring consistency and transparency in messaging.
- Drive marketing and communications capability across the organisation, fostering continuous learning.Evaluate communications campaigns and promote a data-led, results-oriented approach to decision making.
**About You**:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A formal, degree-level qualification in Communications, Marketing, Media, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years’ professional experience in a communications leadership role, ideally within a public sector or local government setting.
- Extensive media and issues management experience, with a track record of navigating complex and sensitive communication scenarios.
- Proven ability to lead a team, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment while maintaining high morale and driving performance.
- Exceptional communication and writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages across multiple platforms.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience developing strategic communications plans based on in-depth analysis of issues and risks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and engage with stakeholders at all levels.High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure, delivering quality results on time

Success in this role will be driven by your ability to lead a high-performing team, build collaborative partnerships across the organisation, and deliver communications strategies that support the Council’s strategic objectives.
