**Position Information**:
Bass High School is a co-educational 7-12 school of 729 students. A Support Unit provides programs for 55 students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities and students with autism. The school serves a diverse student population including a large portion from a non-English speaking background and 18 students with refugee status. The school’s Aboriginal Education Officer supports our 26 First Nations students. Equity funding targets school improvement and innovation supporting teachers to collaborate and share quality practice. Our teaching staff has a strong commitment to improving student learning and engagement through quality teaching, collective wellbeing, professional learning and a focus on literacy and numeracy. Parents, carers and a vibrantly diverse community play a valued role in the life of the school supported by the Parents and Citizens’ Association and the Community Liaison Officer. The Head Teacher Science leads the Science Faculty comprised of members from a broad range of experiences including Early Career and highly experienced teachers. The role of the Head Teacher focuses on leading the faculty to develop highly effective teaching and learning programs that maximise student learning outcomes, developing staff to enhance their teaching practice and working, as part of the executive team, to achieve the school’s strategic goals.

**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:

- Proven ability to effectively lead the development of evidence based teaching and learning programs in Years 7-12 Science courses, with a focus on Stage 6 and with consideration of the NESA Science curriculum reforms.
- Proven ability to strategically drive cycles of professional learning to develop the capacity of all teaching staff as a means to enhance their practice for ongoing growth in student progress.
- Demonstrated capacity to be a dynamic member of the executive team to develop, plan and implement evidence informed strategic initiatives and innovative practices aligned to the school’s strategic improvement plan.
- Demonstrated ability to use differentiated leadership styles to mentor and support Early Career Teachers while fostering a culture of collaboration with highly experienced staff members.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
