About the Team

This role is an integral part of AIG’s Portfolio Solutions Leadership Team in Australia and reports to the Head of Portfolio Solutions. Our Portfolio Solutions business comprises both SME Commercial Package and AIG’s multi-line Underwriting Agency (MGA) portfolios.

About the role

The role leads the SME Package Underwriting Team. SME Package is a strategically important product within AIG Australia and we are seeking to invest in our team and systems to maximise the growth opportunity. In this role you will deliver service excellence to internal and external customers and drive the growth of SME Package, whilst always ensuring adherence to risk appetite, underwriting and compliance standards.

What you need to know

This role has overall accountability for the implementation and effective delivery of the SME Package Underwriting Strategy and Business Plan.

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

- Lead and drive employee engagement across the entire SME underwriting team - including Underwriting Hub Co-ordinators, Senior Underwriters, Underwriters and Underwriting Associates
- Manage workflow and underwriting escalation processes across the SME underwriting team to ensure market-leading customer service is delivered
- Develop and implement targeted business optimisation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and / or intermediary user experience
- Define and deliver SME Package Customer Value Proposition (CVP) and articulate AIG’s ‘Right to Win’ in the SME segment
- Collaborate with the Client & Broker Engagement (C&BE) function to drive intermediary engagement and maintain/improve Net Promoter Score (NPS) results

What we’re looking for:

- Tertiary/industry qualifications in a relevant discipline would be highly regarded
- Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, SME commercial lines underwriting
- Experience in a people-leading operational underwriting role in a matrixed general insurance organisation
- Organizational leadership & talent development experience
- Prior sales development experience
- ANZIIF insurance qualification or equivalent preferred
- Sound Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Strong leadership skills - ability to drive a culture of technical and service excellence
- Strong interpersonal skills - particularly collaboration and engagement
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact and influence
- Strong team player
- Willingness and desire to learn
