- The Australian Antarctic Division is seeking a motivated, team driven person to join the Infrastructure Maintenance and Operation Section to lead the plumbing and mechanical services teams based here in Tasmania and those deployed to Antarctica.

**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.

These goals are to:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it -protect the Antarctic environment
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands.

The Assets and Technology (A&T) Branch provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support the AAP. A&T Branch activities range from the maintenance of existing Antarctic stations and equipment through to the design, manufacture, testing, operation and procurement of advanced scientific equipment and systems. The Branch manages major infrastructure projects in support of AAP outcomes.

The Antarctic Infrastructure Maintenance and Operation Section is responsible for the management, maintenance and engineering development of the built infrastructure at Australia's Antarctic and sub-Antarctic. The section consists of an expeditioner workforce which carries out all maintenance activities and minor construction works at the stations and a management group of engineering and technical staff at the AAD's head office.

**The Job**
The Supervisor Plumbing and Mechanical Services is responsible for leading, directing and supporting, a team of plumbers to ensure the safe, effective and efficient achievement of operational and business outcomes within the designated targets utilising allocated resources and in compliance with policy and legislative requirements. The Supervisor Plumbing and Mechanical Services is directly accountable for all outcomes of the team’s activities, behaviours and business outcomes on a daily basis and contributes to the broader leadership team through actively supporting Assets & Technology management and their decisions.

Key duties for the Supervisor Plumbing and Mechanical Services include:

- Direct supervision of the plumbing team in Kingston
- Responsible for the appointment of plumbers, gasfitters and mechanical services balancing technicians in Antarctica and the Sub-Antarctic.
- Direct responsibility for the compliance and operation of all Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic plumbing, gas and mechanical services plant and equipment and automation.
- Responsible for key indicators as required by state of environment reporting system (water consumption, and incineration)
- Responsible for employee compliance to statutory requirements and APS policies and procedures.
- Co-ordinate technical support for the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations.
- Oversight of the annual recruitment and training of plumbing and mechanical services expeditioners.
- Responsible for providing training and development opportunities to the workgroup.
- Manage and participate in an on-call roster.
- Responsible for implementation of environmental management plans in the form of PA (Preliminary Assessment) or IEE (Initial Environmental Evaluation).
- Responsible for managing and implementing works program in a timely, efficient and safe manner to meet Antarctic station operational needs.
- Liaising with other sections and branches to ensure compliance and deliver on season planning requirements.
- Leadership of the plumbing and mechanical services team.
- Ensure workgroup member competencies are maintained.
- Responsible for the accuracy and processing of information associated with work activities.
- Contribute to control of costs in the allocated budget.
- Compliance with all relevant Legislation, and APS and AAD policies, procedures and practices as varied from time to time.
- Reviewing and authorisation of Job Hazard Analysis (using qualified persons where needed).
