The Department
SBS Technology can be thought of as the 'engine room' of SBS. Our primary role is to enable and support the production, distribution, and transmission of content across television, radio, and online platforms. Our teams achieve this by working collaboratively to design innovative solutions and deliver end-to-end services for our business stakeholders.
The Role
We are seeking a highly capable and knowledgeable Technology Manager for our Melbourne team. You will be responsible for leading the technology team as the most senior technology resource in the office, providing strategic support and day-to-day customer service and technical leadership to Television News Gathering and Contribution Technology, IT Service Centre and Engineering Maintenance teams. Some exciting work includes upcoming foundational projects within the radio routing and mixing platforms, and a key initiative to upgrade the television studio equipment and workflows within SBS’s bureau in Federal Parliament.
The Technology Manager will consult with peers in the Sydney office to prioritise the projects and activities of the teams, gathering feedback and requirements from the business and ensuring a consistent approach to technology within the Melbourne office.
As a leader, you will be responsible for setting the standard for client delivery, actively influencing the culture of the office through alignment to SBS values, managing the teams and ensuring regular communications and feedback to the Sydney office.
About you
- Experience working in a media-dominant environment at present and **understand the inner workings of a major television or radio broadcaster.**:
- A passion for media and technology with a view on how the industry is evolving for both broadcaster and audiences.
- Focused on ensuring support and resolution of both project and business-as-usual activities with a track-record of delivering outcomes within agreed timelines (understanding the critical nature of live 24-7 environments).
- People leadership, providing day-to-day oversight and management for the Melbourne technology team
- Client leadership, acting as the face of the Technology Division in Melbourne and providing high quality client service and support
- Pro-active approach to technology maintenance e.g. ensuring that network and infrastructure systems are functioning at an optimal level, with a practical understanding of the principles of system maintenance and support
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships within an operations environment, including other parts of an organisation and external stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with collective responsibility for the delivery of required outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to influence others in order to achieve required outcomes
- Excellent organisational skills including self-motivation, the ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment and to accept responsibility and accountability to deliver require outcomes
- Prior experience and sound knowledge of radio operations and technology
- Prior hands-on experience providing systems maintenance and support including media workflows, outside broadcast, cameras, switchers and routers, autocues and news and radio production systems e.g. iNews, Dalet etc.
- Knowledge of ITIL and operational processes
- Previous experience managing a team of at around 5 to 10 resources
