**Position Information**:
Ashtonfield Public School, with an enrolment of 538 students, is situated in the lower Hunter Valley on Wonnarua land. The school has a Family Occupation Education Index (FOEI) of 83, the student population includes sixty-four Aboriginal students and eighty-two students with a Language Background Other Than English (LBOTE). The school consists of 21 mainstream and 3 inclusive education classes.
Ashtonfield Public School has worked consistently with the signature pedagogy of Explicit Instruction over a period of almost seven years. In 2024, the school has developed a strong partnership with network schools, developing the Maitland Explicit Teaching Community of Schools (METCoS). Each school is committed to sharing evidenced-based practice in explicit teaching and embracing a Systems Leadership approach. Our teachers seamlessly combine a traditional classroom model with a collaborative open plan environment.
In addition to a strong pedagogical focus, Ashtonfield Public School has a strong culture of personalised learning support together with clear expectations, set through restorative practices in a PBL environment. An active and supportive P&C support many school initiatives including Phoenix Park Farm for Year 5, Year 2 swim scheme and reading incentives. The school fosters a wide sense of opportunities including PSSA, band, Culture Club, StarStruck and a comprehensive transition to school program ‘Creative Critters’. A project to upgrade Ashtonfield Public School was completed in August 2021. The project delivered: a new permanent two storey building, which provided innovative and flexible learning spaces for 12 classes, an upgrade to the staff and administration area, an upgrade to the canteen, hall and library.

- Demonstrated ability to implement, model and lead evidence-based practice in literacy and numeracy to enhance the engagement of all students.
- Ability to lead innovative and personalised learning support initiatives that champion inclusion and positively impact on student outcomes.
- A flexible and responsive leader with a proven ability to build and maintain trusting relationships in co-teaching environments.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5.
