**Position Information**:
Grahamstown Public School is in the Port Stephens area and is situated on Worimi land. There are currently 253 students from an increasingly diverse cultural heritage. As a proud member of the Youyoong AECG, our 51 Aboriginal students enjoy many opportunities to connect with their community and culture. The strong partnership of support from the AECG enhances the knowledge of all teachers to help them embed Aboriginal perspectives into our practices. Grahamstown Public School has a strong student voice through our school leadership programs and the established Junior AECG.
Grahamstown Public School currently operates 10 mainstream classes, two MC classes and two AU classes. We have an enthusiastic and dedicated staff of over 30, including teaching, support and administrative staff. Grahamstown Public School maintains a strong focus on supporting student academic achievement, engagement, attendance and wellbeing. We provide students with opportunities such as debating, PSSA sport, gardening, robotics, drama, dance and choir groups. Grahamstown Public School strategically uses connections with University of Newcastle and consultancy groups to enhance our evidence-based practices in the delivery of educational and wellbeing programs. We regularly meet with our Lakeside Learning Community of Schools and Port Stephens Principal Network, to share best practice and celebrate our successes. Grahamstown Public School works in collaboration with the entire community to support students to: grow with pride, learn for life and strive to be the best that they can be.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.
Proven capacity to work proactively as part of a dynamic leadership team and effectively balance the dual roles of an exemplary teacher with the complex responsibilities of an Assistant Principal.
Proven ability to lead whole-school learning support practices, mentor and collaborate with support personnel to enhance student learning and wellbeing, including those who are high potential and gifted, as well as students with diverse learning needs.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaboratively build relationships and engage students, staff, parents, and the community, while fostering equitable partnerships that celebrate and respect diverse differences to advance the school.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- 4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
