**The Role**
Staff Officers play a crucial role in the Combined Logistics, Sustainment and Maintenance Enterprise (CoLSME) program, with a primary focus on planning and executing the prepositioning of US Materiel in Australia and supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of visits by senior US Star Rank Officers, contributing to successful CoLSME-related engagements within the country.
A key responsibility involves supporting the development of staff work, such as decision briefs, presentations and documentation for various meetings including providing a Secretariat function.
They facilitate amendment and/or development of policy, process, and legislation relevant to the CoLSME program in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Providing staff support to DILP, DCJLOG, and CJLOG for their bilateral meetings with US counterparts is another important duty. They will assist in managing the Directorates business planning, records, and activities, and help manage the CoLSME budget and support the preparation of briefing materials, reports, and other documents as needed for evaluation and assessment activities.
**About our Team**
Commander Joint Logistics (CJLOG) international engagement responsibilities are executed through the Directorate of International Logistics Partnerships (DILP). The Combined Logistics Sustainment and Maintenance Enterprise (CoLSME) is part of this Directorate.
CoLSME was introduced as a new initiative at the Australia-United States Ministerial Consultations in 2021, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two nations to ensure a secure and stable Indo-Pacific region. This initiative supports high-end warfighting and combined military operations through enhancing interoperability of capabilities, overcoming logístical challenges, and promoting effective networks of Defence infrastructure.
CoLSME also focuses on maintaining fit-for-purpose capability, thereby fostering a robust and reliable Defence partnership. Plans are underway to achieve these objectives, including logístical support for tactical operations such as Marine Force Rotations in Darwin and prepositioning of United States Army materiel for training and exercises.
