**The Role**

As a Department Liaison Officer (DLO), you will be the central point of contact and facilitate strong communication, efficient and effective flow of information and advice, and a cooperative working relationship between the department and the Minister and their office.

DLOs work in a complex and often ambiguous environment to support the MO in their liaison with the department by managing the flow of information, advice and documents. DLOs are the interface between the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) and the MO and will gain an insight into the development of public policy at the most senior levels. DLOs will see first-hand the functioning of Cabinet, Parliament and Executive Government, and will come to better understand DJSIR's role in our system of government.

**Key accountabilities include**:

- Communicate and implement systems and processes for briefing and other product flows, general communication, and other support between SEE and the MO.
- Facilitate the relationship between the MO and the department and coordinate briefings and correspondence for the Minister, with assistance from the Department Liaison Assistant.
- Facilitate clear, prompt and effective communication and provision of advice and maintain strong relationships between SEE and the MO, in a manner that reflects the appropriate respective roles of departmental and MO staff.
- Provide accurate, timely and practical advice and information about departmental liaison matters, including proactively identifying matters requiring attention and assisting with the management and resolution of both general and specific issues.
- Respond sensitively to organisational dynamics, recognising underlying organisational issues, trends and levers by identifying and using the appropriate channels to gain the attention of and/or influence key stakeholders.
- Initiate and maintain a network of effective relationships within SEE and with key stakeholders within the MO and across the Victorian Public Service.

**The Team**

The position of Department Liaison Officer will work across Sport and Recreation Victoria branch, which sits within Sport and Experience Economy (SEE) group.

Sport and Experience Economy (SEE) is comprised of Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV), Tourism and Events (T&E) and Outdoor Recreation and Combat Sports (ORCS).

SRV aims to create greater sport and active recreation participation opportunities for all Victorians to maximise economic, social and health benefits and enhance Victoria's livability. This is achieved by supporting the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events and the Minister for Community Sport in the management of major sports facilities, administering grant programs that develop community sports infrastructure, strengthening the capacity of sport and recreation organizations, developing more active recreation and other innovative options to increase overall participation rates, reducing barriers to participation for specific population groups, supporting world-class sporting events and Victoria's high performance sport sector, and reinforcing the role that sport and active recreation plays in growing the Victorian economy, supporting jobs and building stronger communities.
