**(Level B) $102,952 to $121,779 per annum plus an employer contribution of up to 17% superannuation applies.**

**Be part of the Australian Institute for Machine Learning - the largest computer vision and machine learning research group in Australia - and contribute to world-leading research projects at the Centre for Augmented Reasoning.**

The postdoctoral researcher for **‘Interactive machine learning and machine learning-driven science’ **will be supervised by Professor Ian Reid and Professor Dino Sejdinovic. This research topic will be explored in collaboration with CSIRO’s Data61, including its Imaging and Computer Vision Group.

This project will investigate machine learning (ML) driven science discovery, how scientific and expert knowledge can be embedded with data-driven machine learning, and how ML can supercharge scientific discovery. There will be opportunities to interact with and translate core research to business units of the CSIRO, such as astronomy, ecology, agriculture and food, robotics, and/or manufacturing.

The tasks of the researcher will include:

- Carrying out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to the University and CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes
- Recognising and exploiting opportunities for innovation and the generation of new theoretical perspectives, and progress opportunities for the further development or creation of new lines of research to be applied in a range of domains such as environmental science and manufacturing
- Working collaboratively with University and CSIRO colleagues on internal and external projects with associated deliveries.

Outputs will include incorporating domain knowledge into hybrid machine learning models which will be:

- Physical models
- Graphical causal models
- Data across modalities.

**This exciting role will contribute to the Centre for Augmented Reasoning’s objective to build world-class research capability in machine learning while demonstrating the potential and impact of this knowledge for industries in Australia.**

**To be successful you will need**:
1. A PhD in computer science, statistics or mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience

2. Programming experience and expertise in Python and one or more relevant deep learning libraries and ML platforms such as PyTorch, Tensorflow
