**Who we are**
Environment Information Australia (EIA) has been established to provide the best available environmental data and information as the evidence base for critical decision making about Australia’s natural environment and cultural heritage. The EIA is central to the Government’s Nature Positive Plan in ensuring sustainable development and environment protection and rehabilitation through transparency, accountability and faster, clearer decision-making. EIA works closely with private and public partners, including the wider Department, state and territory governments, First Nations partners, environment experts, academia, industry and other Commonwealth agencies. You will be part of Australia’s first national environmental data and information capability. Working in the Environment Data and Analysis Branch you will be part of a team that provides geospatial capability and supports the Department through the delivery of spatial data and analysis for evidence-based policy and decision making.

The Ecosystem and Protected Places section is at the forefront of developing national data sets through data collation and advanced modelling techniques. Our team collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to produce critical environmental products, including the National Vegetation Information System (NVIS) and the Collaborative Australian Protected Areas Database (CAPAD). Additionally, we serve as the department's central hub for remote sensing and heritage mapping. This position is to lead the Threats to Biodiversity team, with a focus on the delivery of threats to biodiversity model generation to support decision making on the impacts of threats to Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES).

**The Job**
We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated geospatial analyst who will, as part of a multi-disciplinary team:

- lead the development and documentation of a transparent methodology and approach for modelling threats that can be delivered to address a range of threats
- manage the research and production of national models of threats to biodiversity using developed modelling approach, and work with internal and external experts to refine data and models
- support the development of traits-based approaches to better understand the impact of threats to Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES)
- guide innovative technical approaches to improve the production of environmental data and tools
- supervise the broader Threats to Biodiversity team in the delivery of threat models as authoritative national environmental data products
- facilitates the external publication of methodology and other communication materials on threat models
- lead the development of a broader threats data framework schema to allow for connection and reporting with threats traits and impacts on MNES
- facilitates positive working relationships with data providers and stakeholders.

**Knowledge and experience**
- Ability to provide key leadership for the publication of authoritative datasets, information products, and methodologies of environmental data for decision-making.
- Ability to provide administrative support for governance processes and outcomes-oriented project management to generate improved environmental data and tools for decision-making and reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development life cycle of data products, from data collation and analysis to documentation, metadata and publishing.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in species modelling, particularly with invasive plants, animals and diseases.
- Demonstrated understanding of the ecology of threats and impacts and interaction with Matter of National Environmental Significance.
- Demonstrated experience in the manipulation and management of datasets and products using geospatial software (preferably ESRI suite).
- Experience developing scripts for analytics, modelling and/or visualisation purposes to deliver insights (i.e. Python, R, Maxent, biosecurity commons).
- Ability to provide authoritative representation and maintain relationships with key stakeholders internal and external to the department.
