**About the Role**
As an Assistant House Supervisor in our Out of Home Residential Care program, you will work alongside the House Supervisor to support the daily operations and team functioning within a double-staffed home. This home provides high-intensity, one-on-one therapeutic care to a young person with complex needs and significant trauma history.
In this role, you’ll assist in coordinating shifts, providing on the ground support to staff, ensuring the smooth running of the house, and maintaining a strong therapeutic focus. You’ll step into leadership when the House Supervisor is not present and play a key part in promoting safety, consistency, and reflective practice across the team.
**This is a Full-Time 38 hours per week opportunity based in Canberra within our Out of Home Residential Care program. The position reports to the House Supervisor.**
**Your Impact**
- Provide hands-on support to the House Supervisor in daily operations
- Support and guide Youth Workers in delivering trauma-informed care
- Help manage rosters, routines, and household requirements
- Respond to incidents and high-risk situations calmly and professionally
- Contribute to a safe and structured home where a young person can heal and grow
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure care is aligned and well-coordinated
- Promote a team culture of consistency, accountability, and reflective practice
**About You**
You’re a strong support person with the confidence to step into leadership when needed. You’re deeply committed to trauma informed practice and know how to balance structure with empathy in a high needs environment.
- Experience in residential care or youth support settings
- Understanding of trauma, attachment, and child development
- Confidence in supporting teams through high-pressure or crisis situations
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Organised, reliable, and committed to high-quality care
- Willingness to grow your leadership skills under the guidance of an experienced supervisor
**Key Selection Criteria**:
- To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
- Demonstrated experience working with children or young people with complex needs
- Minimum Cert IV in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field (or willingness to obrain)
- Understanding of therapeutic frameworks such as TCI, Sanctuary, or neurodevelopmental models
- Ability to support routines, staff coordination, and household functioning
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
- Commitment to professional growth and reflective practice
