**About the role**
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join RACQ and manage the GIS and Environmental Science Analytics function here within the Data Analytics division. You will manage a small team of analysts for our Market Analytics portfolio, mentoring the team and with a strong focus on developing analytical skills and tools. We are on the lookout for someone who can lead a team of specialists, focusing on designing and developing analytical solutions leveraging GIS capabilities across RACQ. Your role will include:
- Gathering structuring and analysing internal and external data using a broad range of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics technologies. Data will include geocoded natural peril hazard metrics, all aspects of policy and member details, interactions, digital experience, competitor data, text and speech records.
- Implementing prescriptive analytics capabilities that enable the leveraging of analytic models in channel and across a range of proactive strategies to provide personalisation and optimisation
- Providing expert advice and services as a trusted business partner, ensuring the delivery of quality solutions and the strengthening of relationships. Such services include:
- Assessing the severity of active weather events to assist the Claims and Underwriting Departments in setting appropriate reserves and embargos
- Facilitating accurate address level price setting for natural peril risks in Australia
- Assessing the impacts to RACQ of contemporary research and development in climate and environmental sciences
- Producing descriptive and diagnostic analytic solutions for business units across the group, especially the production of high quality mapping and cartographic services.
- Contributing your skills and expertise to the team providing domain expertise and computer science technical counsel within the broader analytics practice.
**About you**
Your communication skills are critical to your success as a manager. You will be liaising with both internal and external stakeholders, which will be centred around influencing and motivating, to assist with business unit synergies and increase commercial awareness. You will also have the responsibility to lead, mentor and support a small team. Your interpersonal skills are paramount; however, it is important that you also meet the following criteria:
- University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, IT or similar.
- At least 5 years’ experience within a similar technical or management role.
- A high level of knowledge of GIS disciplines and practices that support production of analytics solutions, particularly in the context of natural perils pricing.
- Experience user of technology and geographic information systems for the management, transformation and analysis of complex data.
- Well-developed project management and internal consulting skills
- A strong understanding of a member/customer-centric organisational structure is desired, especially financial services (but not imperative).
- Problem solving and decision-making skills, particularly with respect to the development and implementation of complex analytics solutions and technical architecture.
