**Who we are**
The Biosecurity Operations Division (BOD) partners with industry to deliver regulatory functions in accordance with legislation and policy that aims to manage biosecurity and imported food risks. BOD's focus is on effectively managing biosecurity and imported food risks through defensible, evidence-based decisions and the successful delivery of initiatives and programs. BOD manages biosecurity systems pre-border, at the border and post-border to ensure compliance of people, goods, aircraft and vessels with Australia’s biosecurity requirements. Divisional operations include policy and regulatory control setting across imported food and biosecurity risk pathways, as well as the delivery of assessment, inspection, post entry quarantine, community engagement and contact centre services.
The Border System and Planning branch (in the Biosecurity Operations Division) drives the development, promotion and implementation of innovative and contemporary business strategies to improve our regulatory activities. The Branch also integrates national arrangements across operational groups and supports the Biosecurity Operations Executive by:
- Developing operating models to continue to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our operational and regulatory functions.
- Providing a conduit between the national programs and operational groups to facilitate operational integration.
- Establishing and maintaining operational performance monitoring and reporting, assurance and verification, operational continuity, incident response.
- Facilitating Industry Engagement and business system support.
- Undertaking internal transformation project/s related to workload and workforce analysis.
- Facilitates the management of change into Biosecurity Operations Division.
- Undertake the development and delivery of technical training within the Biosecurity Operations Division.
- Governance, planning and reporting to support the Biosecurity Operations executive.
The Governance and Planning team (in the Border System and Planning branch) manages divisional governance and planning frameworks and provides advice and strategic support to BOD executive. The team also oversees BOD’s responsibilities through the departmental integrity framework and management of biosecurity officer ID cards.
**The Job**
As Policy Officer - Governance and Planning your key duties will include:
- assist the team in planning and scheduling meetings for a range of governance committees;
- develop correspondence, papers and reports in appropriate formats for committee meetings;
- assisting with the development of strategic corporate documents (as needed);
- provide clear and efficient ways to implement effective governance arrangements;
- assist with secretariat activities to maintain progress and deliver on timeframes;
- assist in preparation of documents for coordination requests, ministerial correspondence, briefs and policy documents as required;
- monitoring and managing of work tasks, workflows, and competing priorities;
- assisting with divisional business continuity planning to ensure high quality responsive business continuity services for the division including but not limited to:
- review and update business continuity framework documents
- maintain robust business contingency plans and business impact analysis, in consultation with stakeholders
- undertake BCP exercises, including outcomes analysis.
