**ACAP**, The Australian College of Applied Professions, is Australia's leading independent provider of tertiary education, delivering accredited courses in psychology, social work, counselling, coaching, criminology, law, and business management and leadership (MBA).
We are seeking an **Academic Skills Advisor** with particular expertise in working effectively with students with disabilities in higher education to help enhance academic outcomes. This is a new role as part of our recently established Learning Hub that uses universal design and strengths-based approaches to inclusive provision of academic skills support for our diverse student population.
Our Academic Skills Advisors are responsible for providing structured individual and group academic skill development programs as part of a suite of support provided through the ACAP Learning Hub designed to enhance academic outcomes. The programs are tailored to meet the needs of all students aligned with the discipline curriculum objectives, as well as in response to specific cohorts of students.
The Academic Skills Advisor (Inclusion) provides academic skill development support via consultation, workshops and webinars, and development of resources for students, and is particularly responsible for programs related to the inclusion of students with disabilities. As part of the role, the Academic Skills Advisor (Inclusion) is responsible for the provision and coordination of strategies and services designed to ensure that students with disabilities are able to participate equitably in pursuit of their academic goals.
**Responsibilities include**:
- Contributing to the development and delivery of academic skills programs within a ‘student first’ culture, particularly at key points in the student life cycle such as the transition to higher education
- Contributing to the development and effective use of College and third-party resources and platforms to enhance academic outcomes of students, including for priority or target cohorts such as students with disabilities, international students and those for whom English is an additional language
- Working with academic leadership and faculty to identify and respond to opportunities to support academic skill development to enhance academic success
- Promoting the inclusion of students with disabilities throughout the College, and providing advice, training and support to other staff to ensure that this is achieved
- Managing student registrations with the AccessAbility program and developing, maintaining and monitoring access plans
- Contributing to ensuring the accessibility of resources and platforms used by the College
**In addition to a passion for developing the academic skills of higher education students, it is essential you can demonstrate**:
- A relevant bachelor's or master's degree in education or a related field and at least two years of experience working in a relevant role in tertiary education
- Demonstrated ability to assist students with developing academic skills, including students with disabilities
- Demonstrated understanding of universal design and strengths-based approaches ensuring accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities in higher education
- Demonstrated knowledge of disability support services, including relevant laws and regulations in Australia
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with students, faculty and other staff
- Demonstrated ability to assess students needs and develop interventions and reasonable adjustments to enhance academic success
- Demonstrated ability to provide timely and effective advice to students concerning academic progression within a ‘student first’ culture
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively within a dynamic and flexible environment
- Demonstrated evidence-based and data-driven approach to the provision of Learning Hub programs and services
- Capacity to work effectively as part of a team, displaying the Navitas Values
