**THE ROLE**

The Carbon, Wholesale & Regulations team is responsible for the management of Origin’s various environmental and carbon scheme, coordinating the Group wide emissions reporting and input to various external and internal reports. The team also manages regulations and implementation of business changes to comply with the rules of tradable green schemes, emerging voluntary carbon schemes. The team provides technical knowledge to Retail, Business Energy, Sales team on current obligations and assist to explore opportunities to increase low carbon product offering.

The primary purpose of the Carbon Analyst is for managing the provision of insightful carbon analysis of business unit performance across the Origin Group. The role is responsible to provide accurate Origin Group emissions data and associated analysis to ensuring full compliance with the National Greenhouse Energy Reporting framework, the safeguard mechanism, Carbon Disclosure Project, Origin’s Sustainability report and all environmental schemes for Origin.

The role requires effective operational risk management practices to ensure that Origin has completed all requisite regulatory and voluntary obligations for the various environmental schemes, national government requirements and international bodies. **This is a 6 month limited term contract opportunity.**

The Carbon Analyst’s responsibilities are highly integrated with Origin Energy’s carbon trading and management operations and are essential for the effective management of risk exposures.

A full understanding of the impacts on Origin from the changing dynamic of the carbon and emissions landscape both at international and national level and internally within Origin. The role is required to keep abreast with the changes in the market and impacts to the industry.

Carbon products are a tradable instrument creating commodity risks, while emissions from facilities can incur severe penalties, if not managed properly. Therefore, a thorough knowledge of benchmark practices and developing theory for operational risk control is essential to be able to identify and resolve issues that can impact on the company's financial position.

The role requires working across a range of business units and external stakeholders to ensure scheme obligations and requirements are met within the deadlines.

**IS THIS YOU?**

To be considered for this role, you’ll have extensive experience in an analytical role in a large listed corporate organisation, with degree qualifications in a numerically focussed discipline. More importantly you’re comfortable dealing with a wide range of stakeholders, have great attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. It is important that you have experience with National Greenhouse Energy Reporting and/or the Renewable Energy Target.

To be successful in this role you will have or be able to show:

- Highly numerate with demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to understand complex models.
- Ability to understand and assess the commercial impact of business decisions.
- Understanding of operational risk management.
- Experience in process improvement.
- Results-oriented approach, self-motivated and reliable, ability to achieve a successful outcome within required timelines.
- Ability to identify, grasp, communicate new and complex issues in a succinct manner and to work with mínimal supervision and instruction.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
