**OUR CLIENT**
Our client is Australasia's specialist provider leading technical expertise of services and products in the area of high voltage engineering.
Moreover, sits within a network of specialist companies delivering world-class electricity and fibre solutions. They provide services in primary and secondary installation, testing maintenance services for transformers, switchgear and associated substation equipment across Generation, Transmission and Distribution.
**ABOUT THE POSITION**
Our client maintains excellent quality, safety, and environmental systems, and currently maintains ISO9000, ISO14000 and AS/NZS 4801 certification. Employees are required to learn and actively comply with and carry out the policies and procedures within these systems.
Technical Specialists while at work have the following responsibilities:
- Take reasonable care of their own health and safety.
- Take reasonable care that their acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons.
- Comply, as far as they are reasonably able, with any reasonable instruction that is given to comply with the Act or regulations.
- Co-operate with any reasonable policy or procedure relating to health and safety at the workplace that has been notified to them.
- Be familiar with Quality, Safety & Environmental procedures on company and clients’ premises. Procedures include Emergency Response, Fire Safety, Earthquake Safety and Electricity Safety.
- Correctly wear or use the applicable PPE, required by legislation or standards, when required for the work activity being undertaken.
- Carry out a systematic identification of all, actual or potential, hazards that give rise to reasonably foreseeable risks to health and safety and risk assessment on all identified hazards and implement control measures to eliminate risks as far as reasonably practicable. For any non-office tasks, a Worksite Safety Plan (Hazard Identification Risk Assessment) is to be completed.
- Accurately report any unsafe work condition, equipment, PPE, work injury, illness, incident or near miss to the Site Supervisor, Project Manager, Safety Representative for their Office, Safety Committee or, as a minimum, to the General Manager
- Prevent pollution to the environment.
- Participate in Quality, Safety & Environmental meetings, training, consultation and initiatives to improve Quality, Safety & Environmental outcomes.
- Undertake to work towards the achievement of Quality, Safety & Environmental targets and objectives.
- Have the opportunity to participate in health monitoring programmes.
- Have the opportunity to be nominated as a HSR; and the opportunity to participate in the election of a HSR; and be represented by their office/workgroup HSR in OHS matters.
**Essential Criteria**:
- Relevant work experience in the electrical industry.
- A career orientation toward work in the electrical industry.
- A tertiary qualification closely relevant to the electrical industry.
- Have vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other, no colour blindness, adequate night vision, and good peripheral vision.
- Hearing correctable to a loss of no greater than 30 decibels at 500, 1000, or 2000 ops level.
- Duties will include physical works.
Technical specialists use and develop their expert knowledge in the following disciplines:
- Primary HV systems installation, maintenance and commissioning of transformers and switchgear and associated high voltage substation equipment.
- Secondary systems protection, SCADA and communications systems.
- HVDC installation, maintenance, and commissioning of primary and secondary systems.
- Must possess communication, planning, budgeting, leadership, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Ensure test results are updated in the test reports and copies are forwarded to Project Manager for supply to principal for entry into their asset database.
- Ensuring that appropriately calibrated measurement and test equipment is available for test staff.
- Review of commissioning plans prior to submission.
- Review commissioning activities and ensure correct processes are initiated to complete the proposed activity without disruption to service equipment.
- Review protection as-builds ensuring they are correct and return to designers for updating.
- Manage technical resources identify any items that will impact the project and report to the project manager.
- Planning and execution of daily technical work.
- Ensuring all staff have the latest issues of all relevant drawings, instructions, specification etc.
