The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. About the role
The Specialist Courts & Programs Administration Coordinator is responsible for providing a range of administration and reception functions that support the daily operations of the Melbourne Drug Court and CISP initiative.
The Specialist Courts and Programs Branch provides a range of initiatives to assist accused persons and others involved in the court system who are experiencing issues of social or cultural disadvantage including substance abuse, disability, mental illness, family violence or cognitive impairment; these initiatives include the Court Integrated Services Program (CISP), in addressing preexisting issues that contribute to offending and other anti-social behaviours these initiatives aim to reduce re-offending.
The DCV administers drug and alcohol treatment orders (DATO) under section 18z of the Sentencing Act 1991. Participants on a DATO receive a judicially supervised, therapeutically oriented, intensive, and integrated drug supervision and treatment regime which focuses on improving many aspects of their lives including drug dependency, physical & mental health, homelessness, education and employment, self-esteem and family and social relationships. The CISP provides support to accused persons who are on bail and whose alleged offending is contributed by factors such as addiction, mental illness, cognitive impairment, and homelessness. As the Administration Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the good running of the courts and support of the participants who are engaged in the program.
About you
- Provide accurate advice and information to program participants who may have co-occurring complexities such as mental illness, homelessness, brain injuries and alcohol or other drug issues
- Respond to telephone and ‘in-person' enquiries from internal and external stakeholders and other visitors in a professional manner
- Monitor, record, and manage the attendance of DCV participants, including participant testing information and results, whilst maintaining confidentiality in a sensitive environment
- Analyse and interpret data and statistical information to recognise trends and prepare regular reports for management
- Identify and implement service delivery and process improvement initiatives that impact on own work and client service
- Maintain proactive working relationships with judiciary, program managers and team leaders, security staff, registry staff and program staff
- Act as the escalation point for the Drug Court Administration Officers across the four Drug Court locations and assist in resolving operational issues
- Support the Drug Court Program Manager with the learning, development, and supervision of the Drug Court Administration Officers
- Provide administrative support to the Drug Court General Manager, Project Team, Principal Practice Lead, and Drug Court programs in consultation with the Program Manager
