APS6 Policy Officer position available, 12-month contract + extension with key Federal Government Department.

This Government Department is working at the forefront of delivering the Government's climate change and energy agenda and protect Australia's environment and water resources.

This section is working on major developments to national policies which impact the lives of every Australian. Currently they are seeking an APS6 Policy Officer to join their highly motivated and enthusiastic team.

**Your new role**
This is an exciting opportunity to support and develop innovative waste policy that works to improve the end of life management of toxic and hazardous waste and reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfill. As a Policy Officer, you will have the opportunity to support the progression of innovative reform to improve how e-waste is managed in Australia. You will join a highly motivated and collaborative team of individuals focused on bringing awareness to Australia’s management of waste and recycling. Here you will be exposed to a range of policy issues including policy research, development, analysis and advice.

As you will be engaging and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders both internally and externally well-developed communication skills, with the ability to foster professional relationships whilst building rapport and trust is a must.

**What you'll need to succeed**
To succeed in this role you will be a high-performing individual with exceptional policy/ program skills. As well as this, you will have:

- Experience in developing and/or advising on policy
- Policy research experience and/or relevant qualification
- Effective problem solving abilities
- Strong organisational abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to foster professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Previous experience in public sector organisations
- Data analysis skills in MS Excel or Power BI would be well regarded.
- Tertiary Qualification or experience / interest in across waste or environmental management will be highly regarded.

To be considered for this role you must be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance at the Baseline level or higher.
