**Who are we looking for?**

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Animal Technician to join Research Infrastructure, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.

QUT’s Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) is looking for two new Animal Technicians to join the team. The primary purpose of these positions is the care and maintenance of laboratory research animals (with a focus on large animals) at MERF.

Research Infrastructure (RI) delivers coordinated University-wide research infrastructure capabilities through distinct research facilities. In collaboration with internal and external partners, the unit acquires, facilitates access to, develops, and manages world-class research infrastructure capabilities.

**About the Medical Engineering Research Facility**

QUT's **Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF)** at The Prince Charles Hospital, was built with funding support from the Queensland Government Smart State Research Facilities Fund. MERF provides a comprehensive suite of facilities with unique capabilities to support researchers in taking novel concepts from basic research to clinical implementation. Facilities include animal housing facilities for rodents, sheep and pigs, operating theatres, cell culture laboratories, and materials testing laboratories. The Facility also provides capability for skills training for surgeons and allied health workers such as general practitioners, anaesthetists and nurses, resulting in better quality of care for patients.

**What you need to succeed**

Your expertise and initiative, combined with your ability to work as an excellent team player will be vital to your success in this role.

You will demonstrate:

- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of an associate diploma level qualification in Veterinary Technology or an equivalent discipline, with relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience working in an animal facility, including experience in the care and husbandry of research animals and competency in standard animal husbandry techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, and to work effectively as a team member to complete work tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, work in a safe manner in association with provided instruction and maintain records with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position (i.e. lift/move/carry weights of up to 12kg on a regular basis and up to 25-30kg occasionally).
- Good written and oral communication and organisational skills, with the capacity to manage and prioritise tasks with competing demands.
- Current Senior First Aid certificate or be willing and able to obtain one quickly.
- A current “C” class Queensland driver’s licence (manual licence/unrestricted preferred).
