The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA), Australia’s trusted voice in planning. is the only national organisation representing urban and regional planners in Australia. PIA has proudly represented planning professionals in Australia and abroad since 1951. By inspiring and supporting planners through Championing, Leading, Advocating and Educating, PIA will continue to assist over 10,000 planning professionals each year, to create vibrant cities and thriving communities. PIA’s mission is to “ inspire planners and elevate their role in shaping Australia’s future”
Reporting to the National Board, as CEO you will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing strategic and operational outcomes to enhance business and revenue performance. Your leadership skills will be critical as you implement strategies to further enhance member services, policy, advocacy, communications, marketing and sponsorship. You will demonstrate outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills and have the ability to influence and negotiate at executive levels, to implement the organisation’s Strategic Plan.
Your mandate will provide you with opportunities to drive outcomes and foster a high performing team culture. Specific responsibilities include:
Develop and recommend to the Board, strategies for dealing with the complex issues facing the planning profession and enhancing the interests of the members.
Represent the Institute in a wide range of public forums to champion the value and practice of urban & regional planning.
Advocate for the Members’ and the public’s interest including using effective relationships with politicians, senior government officials, and industry stakeholders.
Continually refine the curriculum content and delivery platforms for the Institute’s professional development program.
Oversee engagement with university planning schools and the refinement of and compliance with the Institute’s accreditation standards.
Grow the Institute’s membership and overall reach into the profession.
Deliver high quality multi-platform communications with members and the broader profession.
Shape an organisational culture focused on respect, trust, integrity, accountability, empowerment, caring for staff and reputation.
Provide secretariat support for the Board & Committees and maintain appropriate records & support the President to deliver the highest standard of contemporary corporate governance.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to demonstrate outstanding contemporary stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong, productive and collaborative relationships. You will have proven analytical capacity and decisiveness, with experience in developing entrepreneurial and innovative approaches to the development of strategies, policies, plans and projects. You must possess outstanding integrity and professionalism, exceptional communication skills across consultation, advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution plus experience in leading an organisation with the scope, complexity and diversity as PIA.
This role can be located out of any major Australian city.
