This local government organisation is situated in the Western Suburbs and are in search for a skilled social professional who is committed to fulfilling a short-term contractual role on a full-time basis.
**Your new role**
The primary objective of the position is to build connected, cohesive communities, and facilitate the implementation of strategies that build the capacity of diverse communities to participate and engage in community life in ways that are fair, meaningful and inclusive. Other aspects will include:
- Work with diverse communities and networks to build capacity, increase participation and boost resilience.
- Build understanding of the nature of inclusive participation, including formal and informal volunteering and facilitate practices that enable diverse communities to participate in and contribute to community life.
- Facilitate activities that value, recognise, and advocate for the contribution of volunteering and volunteers make to our community.
- Support the development of processes and resources that strengthen the quality of Council managed volunteer programs.
- Contribute to and support building an evidence base including the design and maintenance of a team based inventory of community assets with focus on volunteerism, diversity and inclusion.
**What you'll need to succeed**
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in community development, social sciences or related discipline.
- Experience and understanding of volunteering and the relationship with civic participation.
- Experience working in a community development or similar role, preferably in local government.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Tertiary qualification in Community Development / Social Policy or related disciplines with relevant experience or lesser formal qualification with substantial experience.
- Outstanding community development skills and experience in developing, planning, and delivering projects preferably within a community/local government context with a commitment to access and equity outcomes.
- Extensive experience and knowledge in the development and facilitation of projects that develop community participation, leadership and that enable community to be strong contributors in their development.
