**T**his is a maternity relief position and should the permanent incumbent require an early return from maternity leave, this contract of employment will cease with two weeks notice. Maternity relief positions can be for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of continued employment for up to a further 12 months for maternity leave reduced hours, therefore there are no claims to permanency.**
Central Coast Local Health District are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Aboriginal Health Worker to join their Drug and Alcohol Youth team. This temporary, full-time role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal young people and their families who are affected by substance use.
As an Aboriginal Health Worker in the Drug and Alcohol Youth Program, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, holistic care to predominantly Aboriginal young people and their families who are impacted by substance use. Your key duties will include conducting assessments, providing case management, advocacy, and referrals, and ensuring that clients receive the appropriate care and support across various Drug and Alcohol teams. You will also collaborate with colleagues to develop tailored intervention plans, considering both the emotional, psychosocial and cultural needs of the client. You will play a vital role in ensuring that clients have better access to health services, with a particular focus on improving care.
In addition, your work will involve participating in clinical and cultural supervision, maintaining accurate health records, and assisting with administrative tasks and mandatory reporting. Furthermore, you will be involved in health education, promotion activities, and quality improvement initiatives that aim to enhance service delivery and outcomes for Aboriginal clients.

**About You**
- This is an identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position, applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as Aboriginal, and be accepted in the community as such, in accordance with Section 14D of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- You can demonstrate a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture, health, and wellbeing.
- You have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your communication style to suit different audiences, including young people, families, healthcare professionals, and community members.
**Where you’ll be working**
You will be working within the Drug and Alcohol Youth Program of the CCLHD, a program designed to support young people, their families, and carers, whose physical, mental, and social well-being is at risk due to substance use. You will be based in the Central Coast region, with opportunities to collaborate with both local and regional healthcare and community providers. The role provides a supportive and collaborative work environment, where you will work alongside a team of experienced professionals who are committed to delivering culturally appropriate and evidence-based care.
